The Royal Challengers Bangalore got back to the winning ways after a string of poor performances this season. They beat the Delhi Daredevils in their most recent encounter in Bengaluru. Coming in to the game, both teams were low on confidence. They were among the bottom placed sides in the points table, and hence, a win meant a world to them.

As the two sides locked horns at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, one thing was certain – either of the two sides was set to feel better about their place in the points table. And as things panned out, it was the home side who emerged victorious on the day. Chasing 175 for the win, the chief architect of the run chase was AB de Villiers, who scored an unbeaten 90 off 39 deliveries in the game. He saw his side home with 6 wickets in hand.

Earlier in the game, the Delhi Daredevils were asked to bat first after Virat Kohli had won the toss for the hosts. The Daredevils had a very poor start with Umesh Yadav bowling a fiery four over spell up front. Both the DD openers perished for single digit scores after long struggles at the crease. The innings needed a rebuild, and more importantly, some momentum.

Young players, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, proved to be the ideally suited men for the task on the day. Pant was slow to start off and Iyer was the chief contributor in the 75-run stand for the third wicket. Iyer perished soon after scoring his fifty but Pant continued to rally along. He did not find a lot of support for the other end though.

That did not bog down his spirits and he took the attack on the opposition. He was dismissed in the final over of the game, but he had ensured that he took his side to safety before getting out. Pant perished on 85 (48) and his knock propelled the Delhi Daredevils to a total of 174/5 in 20 overs.

In the run chase, the Royal Challengers Bangalore did not have the best of starts. With openers back in the hut early in the game, the onus was on the senior duo of Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers to marshal the run chase. Virat scored a handy 26-ball 30 but the main fireworks came from the bat of AB de Villiers. A fine innings from ABD guided the hosts to a thumping 6 wickets win in the match.
