Twitter Reactions as Australia shine, undo the defending champs in the World Cup 2015 semi-finals: The semifinal between India and Australia at the prestigious SCG was colored in waves of blue wearing Indian fans, with a slice of gold wearing Australian supporters. The first semi-final between South Africa and New Zealand had given a fitting start to the last stages of the 2015 World Cup with a classic match and everyone expected this match to exceed the previous encounters between the 2 teams. Australia are 7-3 in the World Cup encounters, but India has defeated them in the 2011 World Cup quarterfinals.

Both the teams went in with their best playing XIs in this crucial match between the defending World Champions and the former World champions in front of more than 70,000 cheering fans. The fact that Australia has never lost a semi-final in World Cup history and India has never lost a semi-final under MS Dhoni makes it a fairly even contest.

Australia were right into the game with the toss, SCG looked like win the toss bat first win the match wicket and proved to be the same. Batting first, though India stuck early, Steve Smith and Aaron Finch ensured a solid and stable start to the innings, fifty for Finch and another 100 against India for Smith meant we were looking at something around 350 already.

Indian bowlers came back well with a few quick wickets but the damage was done and in the end Mitchell Johnson’s cameo took Australia from a par score to above par 328.

Chasing 328 was always going to be a huge task even for this famed Indian line-up pressure showed on most of their batsmen right from Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli all fell after getting starts.

Though probably the best finisher and Indian skipper Dhoni was there but it was too much even by his standards and when he got out for 65, it was curtains for India’s hope. 233-10 was all that the defending champions could manage.

We need to acknowledge the way they played all throughout the tournament, also that Australia was a better team today and rightly advance to the final of the world cup against New Zealand.

We bring to you some class, funny and encouraging Tweets from the social media site Twitter, which shows the enthusiasm of the fans for this mega high voltage encounter.
