Mitchell Starc, the Australian fast bowler, has opted out of the 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-arm speedster backed out even last time around, citing preparations for the 2019 World Cup as a reason. The paceman had last played the IPL way back in 2015 when he represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) under the leadership of Virat Kohli.

In 2018, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) shelled out a whopping INR 9.4 crores for Starc. Unfortunately, he couldn’t play a single game due to an injury that he suffered during the Test series in South Africa. Starc’s name is one of the absentees from the list of 971 names, who have registered themselves for the IPL 2020 Auction, scheduled to take place in Kolkata on December 19.

Mitchell Starc- the leading wicket-taker in Pakistan Tests

Starc, however, will be turning out for the Welsh Fire, who drafted him in at USD 160,000 approx for the inaugural edition of the Hundred, set o take place next year. Starc, of late, played the two-match Test series versus Pakistan. There he became the leading wicket-taker, having picked up 14 wickets with a fifer. Prior to that, he missed quite a few games in the Ashes, but has found rhythm.

Along with Starc, England’s Test skipper, Joe Root, also made himself unavailable for the T20 extravaganza. Last time around, the likes of Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch also didn’t take part in the IPL, but they have registered themselves for the auction at a base price of INR 2 crore (USD 279,000 approx). Other than Maxwell and Finch, five others have a base price of INR 2 crore.

Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Mitchell Marsh, along with veterans Dale Steyn and Angelo Mathews have the highest base price. Among other Australian cricketers in the top-bracket, fast bowler Kane Richardson and stalwart batter Shaun Marsh have a base price of INR 1.5 crore.

Robin Uthappa is the only Indian with a base price as high as INR 1.5 crores. In the meantime, the users on Twitter shared their opinion about Starc backing out of the IPL auction.
