Team India continued to dominate the Proteas in their own backyard. After Virat Kohli’s sensational innings that lifted up the Indian total, it was the wrist spinning duo which continued to impress. The South African batting order once again stood clueless against Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal.

Rohit Sharma continued his poor run in the South African tour. The opener was dismissed for a duck in the very first over. The onus fell upon Dhawan and skipper Kohli to provide India with a fierce start. They managed to put up a magnificent 140-run partnership for the second wicket. Not only did they light up the stage with their splendorous batting, but also put the pressure straight back on the Proteas bowlers.

After Dhawan’s wicket, there was a collapse in the midst. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane, Hardik Pandya and MS Dhoni failed to make much of a difference. Kedhar Jadhav also failed to do anything special as Kohli stood there as the lone warrior. Not only did he score a century, but also stayed on till the end to ensure India crossed the 300 mark.

They posted a total of 303/6 as Kohli stayed not out on 160. As for South Africa, JP Duminy managed to get a couple of wickets. Kagiso Rabada was also fantastic with his bowling. As for the South Africans, Hashim Amla had a new opening partner in skipper Aiden Markram as Quinton de Kock was ruled out due to a wrist injury.

Amla continued to fare poorly as he was dismissed in the second over. JP Duminy who walked in No.3 scored a brilliant fifty. Both put up a partnership of 78 runs for the second wicket. However, as soon as Kuldeep Yadav was introduced, the South African innings fell apart. Both Chahal and Kuldeep spun a web for the Proteas batsmen who continued to struggle against spin. they accounted for eight wickets altogether.

Reduced to 95/4, David Miller tried to hang on at the crease. Since it was a difficult pitch to get all going, Miller just couldn’t shift gears. He got out owing to pressure as batsmen continued to fall like a pack of cards. The hosts were bowled out for a total of 179 runs in the end. Twitter lauded the effort of wrist spinners while the South African batting was slammed for their poor outing.
