The 66th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 featured a clash between the Shikhar Dhawan-led Punjab Kings and the inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Friday, May 19.
Batting first, Punjab Kings’ top-order failed to make an impact on the game as Prabhsimran Singh was sent back to the pavilion for just two runs in the first over of the match. Furthermore, skipper Shikhar Dhawan fell prey to Adam Zampa and was dismissed for just 17 runs.
Atharva Taide (19) and Liam Livingstone (9) too fell cheaply. As the side seemed to crumble under pressure, Jitesh Sharma, Sam Curran, and Shahrukh Khan played brilliant knocks to stabilise the innings for the Shikhar Dhawan-led side.
Curran scored 49* runs in 31 balls, Jitesh Sharma amassed 44 runs in 28 deliveries, and Shahrukh played an unbeaten knock of 41* runs in 23 deliveries. Their knocks helped Punjab post 187 runs on the board in the first innings.
Navdeep Saini was the highest wicket-taker for Rajasthan with three wickets to his name; however, conceded 40 runs in the four overs. Furthermore, Trent Boult and Adam Zampa took one wicket each.

The 21-year-old scored yet another half-century, amassing 50 runs in 36 deliveries. With Sanju Samson’s poor showing, it was Devdutt Padikkal who rose to the occasion and scored 51 runs in 30 deliveries.
Furthermore, Shimron Hetmyer scored 46 runs in 28 deliveries, as Rajasthan won the game by four wickets in the last over with Dhruv Jurel’s six.
