In their first clash of the T20 World Cup 2024, India beat Ireland by 8 wickets. India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl against Ireland where the Men in Blue bowled them for just 96 runs.

While chasing, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli opened for the team. Rohit Sharma smashed his tenth half-century in T20 World Cup 2024 and completed his 4000 T20 runs. An impressive conclusion for India. Significant margins as well: they bowled Ireland out for 96 runs with eight wickets left and 46 balls left.

India had a commanding victory to start their campaign, but the field conditions will largely shape how this game is remembered. Uneven bounce right through, with sideways movement as well as mainly high but occasionally low bounce. India's fast bowling might have been the deciding factor, but they also had an advantage from batting second and knowing they were just chasing 97 runs. Not that they stopped taking chances, though.

Moving forward, Ireland's next game is the day after tomorrow against Canada and India will play in a high-voltage World Cup clash against Pakistan on Sunday.

1. India bowlers won it

The Indian bowlers probably won it for the team in the first innings as they bowled out Ireland for just 96 runs. Hardik Pandya took 3 wickets for just 27 runs in his four overs, Jasprit Bumrah took 2 wickets for just 6 runs in three overs and Arshdeep Singh took 2 wickets for 35 runs in four overs.

2. Hitman show yet again

In the T20 World Cup 2024 opener, Indis skipper Rohit Sharma yet again showed his class batting skills as he scored his tenth half-century of the T20 World Cup. He also finished 4000 runs in T20s. Batters were confident because of the target that the opponents set.
