Bangladesh got the better of arch-rivals Sri Lanka in a thrilling T20 World Cup 2024 clash on Saturday, June 8, at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas.

Najmul Hossain Shanto won the toss and opted to bowl first. Sri Lanka got off to a quick start before Kusal Mendis was dismissed in the third over. Kamindu Mendis fell cheaply but Pathum Nissanka played some mesmerising shots during his innings of 47 off 28 balls. However, after the opening batter was dismissed in the ninth over, the Island nation lost wickets at regular intervals to finish on 124/9 in their 20 overs. They had scored 74 in the first 10 overs for the loss of three wickets but could only manage 50 runs in the last 10, losing six wickets.

Young leg-spinner Rishad Hossain was praiseworthy, as he bowled with a lot of control in his first World Cup game and finished with excellent figures of 3/22 in his four overs. The experienced Mustafizur Rahman was also sensational, as he took three wickets and conceded just 17 runs. Meanwhile, Taskin Ahmed took a couple of wickets, while Tanzim Hasan Sakib bagged one in what was a polished bowling effort from the Bangla Tigers.
