Dubai Capitals earned the vital two points after emerging victorious by 16 runs against MI Emirates in Match 13 of the ongoing ILT20. The win was much required for the Dubai franchise as the side was reeling from back-to-back losses in their previous outings.

MI Emirates skipper Kieron Pollard won the toss and opted to field first, a decision which backfired and cost them dearly. Thanks to the top-order firing in tandem, the scores of 97, 82 and 26 runs by skipper Rovman Powell, Joe Root and Robin Uthappa catapulted the side to attain a mammoth total of 222 runs in their stipulated 20 overs of the match.

With the massive score set on the board, the Capitals seemed like the clear favourites to clinch the contest at the Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi.

Skipper Kieron Pollard’s knock goes in vain during run chase

In response to the 222-run total, the Emirates required a similar batting performance in order to stay alive in the contest and possibly win the match. However, Dubai sent the top-order packing in under six overs of the contest which swiftly added more pressure onto the Emirates side.

Despite this, skipper Kieron Pollard, who came down the middle order gave it his best to execute a rescue job. The aggressive hitter scored a blistering knock of 86 runs from 38 deliveries which included six sixes and eight boundaries at a stunning strike rate of 226.31 before getting dismissed by fellow Windies cricketer and counterpart Powell.

Following his dismissal, Andre Fletcher and Najibullah Zadran tried hard to steer the side close to the total, but the latter was dismissed for 30 runs off nine deliveries. Succumbing under pressure, Emirates handed the win to Dubai Capitals by 16 runs.
