Daniel Hughes’ half-century followed by a great cameo by Daniel Christian helped Sydney Sixers continue its dominance in the Big Bash League (BBL) 2021-22. The batting remained a huge concern for the Thunder and the batters never had a chance against the mighty bowling attack of the Sixers. In a rain-affected game, the Thunder was asked to chase a total of 169 runs in 16 overs. But, the team could make only 142 runs and lost the match by 30 runs (DLS method).
The Thunder won the toss and elected to bowl. James Vince and Josh Philippe opened the batting for the Sixers. The duo could add only 24 runs before Daniel Sams dismissed Philippe for 13 runs off ten balls. Hughes joined Vince in the middle and started a massive counterattack. They added 38 runs before Sams struck again to dismiss Vince.
Moises Henriques came out to support Hughes, who was looking in great touch. Henriques’ innings was cut short by a full and wide outside off delivery bowled by Chris Green in the 10th over. Hughes completed his half-century in the 12th over and was dismissed by Saqib Mahmood in the very next over. Daniel Christian and Jordan Silk added 51 runs off the last 20 balls to put a score of 168 runs in 16 overs. Christian made 41 runs off 17 balls and hit four boundaries and two sixes.
The batting didn’t click for Sydney Thunders
Matthew Gilkes and Alex Hales came out to open the innings for the Thunder. They could not do much as Ben Dwarshuis dismissed Gilkes for six runs on the last delivery of the first over. Jason Sangha came out to bat next. Hales’ struggle in this season continued as he departed after scoring 14 runs in the fourth over.
Sam Billings, who is struggling to find a place in England’s white-ball squad, was dismissed by Lloyd Pope for a single-digit score. Alex Ross and Sangha did add 34 runs for the next wicket before Hayden Kerr dismissed Sangha for 47 runs off 30 balls. Sams played a cameo of 28 runs off 11 balls, including four sixes. But, it was too late as the Sixers won the match by 30 runs. Daniel Christian was adjudged player of the match for his innings.

Don't let test match distract you from the fact that Daniel Christian is playing with a S/R of 240🔥

This is glorious batting from Jason Sangha. He's using those wrists to perfection!
The sooner he finds his feet at the FC level, the better it is for Australia.#BBL11— Shaan Waseem (@shaanwaseem2) December 26, 2021
I’m sorry but Josh Philippe wearing his WA Warriors cap during Sixers games is cringe. Bruh, you’re paid by the Sixers, you should wear the proper sixes kit. This would be like a test player wearing their baggy green for a Shield game. Cringe. #ashes #BBL2021
