Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami was suddenly in the news when his wife put out posts on social media alleging that he was involved in several extra-marital affairs. Hasin Jahan went on to claim that she was physically and mentally abused as well as tortured by Shami and his family.
She has also filed an FIR and has made her intentions clear of taking the matter to court. Hasin posted screengrabs of conversations on WhatsApp and Facebook messenger where the cricketer is taking to other women and making sexually suggestive comments. Thus she claims to have proof of adultery.
Amidst all that, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today released the updated list of central contracts with the addition of a new Grade – A+. Shami who held a Grade B contract until last year was excluded from the list this time.
However, it was soon clarified that his name will be included back in the contract list if he gets a clean chit in the matter.
“Shami has been dropped from the player contracts system because his wife filed a complaint against him. Shami has been dropped from contract due to disciplinary reason and will be included in the contract list if (his) innocence is proved,” sources told NDTV on Wednesday.
While Jahan on her part said that: “He was planning to abandon me after his South Africa tour by taking away the property and insurance papers. I have been tolerating all this for the past five years. He has been asking for divorce for two years.”
“I’m not going to divorce him till my last breath. I’ve all evidences against him and will soon drag him to court,” she said.
Shami claimed innocence indicating at conspiracy in his tweet which read – “Hi I’m Mohammad Shami. Ye jitna bhi news hamara personal life ke bare may chal raha hai, ye sab sarasar jhut hai, ye koi bahut bada humare khilap sajish hai or ye mujhe Badnam karne or mera game kharab karne ka kosis ki ja rahi hai.”
Here is how Twitterati reacted when Shami’s name was missing from the contract list:
Absolutely unprofessional from BCCI to remove Shami's name from the contract list. Don't act like emotional teenagers. Put the lad in. Those text messages aren't good enough to snatch his job.

Not condoning anything, but can the @bcci deny/withhold a contract to Mohammad Shami while employing Gyanendra Pandey as junior selector? Pandey was arrested on the charge of assaulting his wife in 2000. This is in the public domain. Shami is unproven allegations so far.

I fail to understand why #BCCI denied #Shami a contract.
1. The allegations are unproved.
2. Even if Shami has an EMA (no evidence), he will not be the first contracted player to do that.
3. The allegations came hours before the contracts were announced, Coincidence?— Abhishek Mukherjee (@ovshake42) March 7, 2018
Can’t believe shami has not got a central contract . Just don’t understand it .

Guys. Don't outrage so fast. BCCI hasn't dropped the contract for Shami, could be just withheld due to issue happening in the last 24 hours and they may well issue him one, once this issue is settled. Let's wait to hear from them than giving so much importance now.

Indian pacer #Shami not part of @BCCI central contract anymore. Are we going to lose an excellent pace bowler to domestic problems? Seriously? Extra marital affairs have absolutely nothing to do with his game c'mon! #MohammedShami

Shami is not there in the contract of central players so BCCI won't give h his annual salary!!

Bizarre to remove Md Shami from the BCCI central contract for the year 2017 – 2018 given he recently played and performed in SF test matches & T20. #BCCI
