The bottom-placed Rajasthan Royals (RR) faced the Kings XI Punjab in the match 38 of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) in Indore. The visitors are in need of a victory badly and with that intent, they sent Jos Buttler to open the innings with D’Arcy Short after they were invited to bat first. But the latter’s poor run continued and might have played his last game of this season after playing a poor shot over the top in the very first over of the game. But his partner kept going in the powerplay which powered them towards a good score.

But the skipper Ajinkya Rahane also failed as he was sent back by Axar Patel in the fourth over of the innings. Sanju Samson then joined Buttler as both of them resurrected the innings with a 49-run stand even as the England wicketkeeper brought up his second consecutive half-century. But he lost Samson who needlessly played a pull shot in the air with an aim to clear the boundary and failed which gave an opening to the home side and they pounced in nicely.

Next one to go was Ben Stokes who looked in good touch on the day but his straight hit over the top off Mujeeb Zadran was caught brilliantly by Mayank Agarwal. Just when he realised that he was losing his balance he threw the ball towards Manoj Tiwary and they combined to send back Stokes. Unfortunately, Buttler who was playing patiently until was picked by the same bowler in the next over and it shattered the hopes of the Royals to post a huge total on the board.

Jofra Archer was cleaned up off the next ball itself and Krishnappa Gowtham failed to bring his team out of the trouble leaving them reeling at 114/7 with almost 5 overs to go. But the efforts of Shreyas Gopal in the end helped them post a competitive total of 152  Mujeeb was excellent with the ball as he returned with the figures of 3/27 as even the other bowlers supported him well.
