The dead rubber at the Feroz Shah Kotla turned out to be a nail-biting game as both teams looked forward to finishing the season with a victory. The Royal Challengers Bangalore registered their third victory of the season as the Delhi Daredevils fell short by 8 runs. Earlier in the day, it was captain Virat Kohli who won the toss as the Royal Challengers Bangalore elected to bat first.
AB de Villiers missed out as he left to join the national team for the Champions Trophy approaching early next month. Delhi Daredevils had an unchanged playing XI from their last game. Better late than never, Chris Gayle played some fantastic shots in his knock of 48 (38). It wasn’t quite a Gaylestorm innings but still worthy enough. While his partner Vishnu Vinod was dismissed early, captain Kohli in spite of the match being an inconsequential game showed great spirit.
He went on to score a well-constructed half century. While the lower order didn’t contribute much to the total, Pawan Negi’s cameo did provide a hand as RCB ended up posting a total of 161/6 in their quota of 20 overs. Pat Cummins was the pick of the bowlers with 2/12 while Zaheer Khan and Shahbaz Nadeem also managed to get a wicket each.
As for the Delhi Daredevils, Sanju Samson was out in the very first over. His partner Karun Nair tried to hang in for a while though not so long. Shreyas Iyer’s 32 (30) and Rishabh Pant’s another stellar effort for his 45 (34) combined for a brilliant partnership as they took Delhi Daredevils to a stronger position.
However, once both got out it triggered a collapse in the batting ranks of the Delhi Daredevils. The likes of Marlon Samuels and Corey Anderson failed to get going though Mohammed Shami did provide some fireworks in the end. Some clever bowling by Pawan Negi, in the end, ensured RCB won by 10 runs. Harshal Patel won the man of the match for his figures of 3/43.
Here are some of the amazing Twitter reactions that appeared during the course of the game:
World Cup winning type feeling for Virat Kohli right now after the win. RCB has been so bad this season.

Delhi Daredevils won both their games against a team like RPS and lost both against a team like RCB. Sums up their season perfectly #IPL

BCCI should intervene and get Rishabh Pant out of DD – any player with a bright future doesn't deserve to waste here #DDvRCB

#DDvRCB too much pressure for #pant to handle. Nevertheless out for good ball, well played man

Four 50+ scores in just 10 matches n so he's out of form…!!!
No wonder…. why he's run machine…. Kohli ?@imVkohli @RCBTweets #DDvsRCB— Siddhi (@im_sdatri) May 14, 2017
Delhi crowd is cheering RCB?
Nope, they're cheering Kohli.
IPL has shuffled teams so much – zero team loyalty.
Only Kohli loyalty.#DDvRCB— Sorabh Pant (@hankypanty) May 14, 2017
No matter team hasn't qualified for qualifiers, Virat Kohli's aggressions remains the same.#RCBvDD

Avesh Khan’s pace was impressive but more so was his line and the angle it created – he gave no room to the right hander. #IPL

Making Avesh Khan sit the entire tournament out is unforgivable. He's been good for the U-19.
Pant v Avesh encounter will be good. #DDvRCB— Samreen Razzaqui (@SamreenRazzaqui) May 14, 2017
It seems Virat Kohli was saving Avesh Khan for important match like this.#RCBvDD

That is the second time Samson has been dismissed by the short ball this season. He has scored 41 off 18 short deliveries. #IPL

While watching Under-19 matches last year, I was more excited about Awesh Khan than Rishabh Pant. Ask Zaheer to mentor him pls #DDvRCB

If anybody ever asks you what's "timing" in cricket, show them this! Absolutely insane! #ViratKohli #IPL #RCB pic.twitter.com/dxIPTleDgx

Zak may be 52 years old, but still a better shorter format bowler than Shami..
— Alagappan Vijaykumar (@IndianMourinho) May 14, 2017
With this six(665th of IPL), total number of sixes in #IPL officially crossed the total number of ppl that watched #PSL this season.

That six from @imVkohli in Anderson's over is by far the shot of the tournament. #IPL #DDvsRCB

Short innings so far but have enjoyed watching @imVkohli bat. There is a steeliness to him. And solidity. Prepping for #ChampionsTrophy?

Two proud and outstanding players who would like to finish off on a high @imVkohli @ImZaheer #DDvRCB #IPL pic.twitter.com/umt0P8fhj3

Kohli has just hit a six over extra cover with a shot that was half checked drive, half forward defensive. Staggering timing. #IPL

Don't be surprised if Delhi team get 'all out' like Punjab. It's a Sunday evening what else u expect.#DDvRCB #RCBvDD #RPSvKXIP

So much time for two cricketers: Gayle taking a single down to mid on, Zaks at mid on.#DDvsRCB
