Sri Lanka registered a comfortable 10-wicket win over Bangladesh in the second and final Test match at the Shere Bangla Stadium in Dhaka on May 27. The Lankans were already in a commanding position in this contest, having reduced the hosts to 23/4 with Tamim Iqbal bagging a pair and skipper Mominul Haque walking back to the pavilion without troubling the scorers.
With Bangladesh having lost their top-order, the onus was completely on the last pair of veteran Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das to pull off something extraordinary in order to save the Test for the hosts, which was not to be as the Sri Lankan bowlers came out with a plan and executed it well.
Sri Lanka complete the formalities on the final day
When the play resumed on the fifth day, all hopes were pinned on the first innings’ saviors Mushfiqur and Das, who had propelled Bangladesh to 365 with a 200-plus run sixth-wicket stand. The duo did look good to a certain extent as they survived the new ball before Mushfiqur was sent back for 23 and Bangladesh’s scorecard read 53/5.
The hosts looked in a spot of bother before Litton along with veteran all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan took the initiative of trying to save contest as they stitched a 103-run stand for the sixth wicket, with both scoring their respective half-centuries. Das scored 52 while Shakib top-scored with 58. The duo’s rescue act was good enough to ensure that Bangladesh did manage to overhaul Sri Lanka’s first-innings lead.
Nonetheless, once they were dismissed, the tail-enders failed to offer any resistance, and the hosts were bundled out for 169, setting an easy 29-run target for the visitors, which they got without breaking a sweat to clinch the two-match series 1-0. Asitha Fernando was adjudged the Player of the Match for taking 10 wickets (4/93 in the first innings and 6/51 in the second) and Angelo Mathews was named the Player of the Series for scoring 344 runs.
Here are the Twitter Reactions to Sri Lanka’s big win over Bangladesh:
What a spell, Ashitha Fernando! Bangladesh were 156 for 5 and then he triggered a collapse to not just finish with 6/51 but also ensure Bangladesh are all out for 169 and thereby his side needing only 29 runs to win this Test. What a performance. A 10-wicket haul for him.

A lesser known fact on Asitha Fernando is that he is only 24 years and is only the second Sri Lankan fast bowler after Chaminda Vaas to pick a match bag of 10 wickets. Sri Lanka need 29 runs to win #BANvSL pic.twitter.com/eFbdTTIg7r
