Suresh Raina has made a comeback to the One-Day International side of Team India for the three-match series against England. He will replace Ambati Rayudu who was dropped from the squad for failing to clear the yo-yo fitness test held at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. He also was making a return to the ODI set up after a long exile but will have to wait for his turn now. However, his loss has proved to be the gain for Raina who will don the ODI jersey after almost three years.

The flamboyant left-hander last played for India way back in 2015 against South Africa in Mumbai and was dropped for poor returns ever since then. Soon he was out of favour of the T20I side as well with concerns over his fitness. Though he didn’t lose hope and kept on working hard to first return to the shortest format of the game earlier this year against South Africa. He also won the Man of the Match in one of the games of the tour and also went on to play a crucial role in the Nidahas Trophy.

Raina to bat at 4?

Suresh Raina is likely to bat at number 4 for India during the ODI series as the team is trying to find an able batsman in the middle-order. He brings the experience of 223 ODIs to the table as well and his inclusion will surely bolster the batting resources of the team. Moreover, he also gives the option of the sixth bowler to his captain as he is capable of rolling his arm over. MS Dhoni, during his captaincy days, used to make him bowl a lot and Raian never disappointed his skipper.

As it stands now, this is a great opportunity for Raina to seal his place ahead of the World Cup next year in England itself. If he manages to post some good scores on the board for the team, it will also solve the problem of the middle-order for the Men in Blue.

Twitter, however, was excited on his come back to the 50-over format and congratulated him for the same. Though few felt bad for Rayudu also as he deserved a go and was dropped only due to his fitness.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Raina’s comeback:
