While Australian bowlers stole the show on Day 1 of Ashes 2021-22 opener, the following day belonged to their batters. On a track where England got skittled out for 147 while batting first, Aussie batters scored runs for fun and tightened their grip over the clash. While David Warner shone at the top and made a gritty 94, Travis Head added salt of England’s wounds with a fiery hundred.

At stumps on Day 2 of the Brisbane Test, Australia were 343/7, having a massive lead of 196 runs. Notably, Head is still unbeaten at the crease and hence, the lead is all but likely to extend further. With three days of play left in the game, a draw is highly unlikely. Hence, Joe Root’s men need to play out of their skin to add some spice in the contest.

Coming to the proceedings of Day 2, the Aussies didn’t get off to a great start either with Ollie Robinson dismissing opener Marcus Harris for three. However, Warner joined forces with Marnus Labuschagne and the duo stitched up a 156-run stand to put the Aussies in the lead. While both batters scored half-centuries, Warner looked set to touch the three-figure mark.

However, he ran out of luck and fell prey to Robinson for 94. As the likes of Steve Smith and debutant Alex Carey couldn’t contribute much, England seemed back in the hunt to some extent. However, Travis Head shattered their hopes with an onslaught. The southpaw, who piped Usman Khawaja to earn a place in the playing XI, attacked English bowlers from the outset and scored runs all over the park.

As a result, he went to his third Test hundred in no time, getting the feat in just 85 balls. The southpaw didn’t get hasty even after crossing 100 and remained unbeaten till the end. He was well supported by Mitchell Starc, who survived 24 balls for his 10 on Day 2. For England, Ollie Robinson was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets. At the same time, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood and Joe Root took one wicket apiece.

Meanwhile, let’s look at how Twitterverse reacted to proceedings on Day 2 of first Ashes Test:
