As expected Team India captain Virat Kohli announced his arrival to IPL 10 in a spanking fashion with a well-constructed half-century against the Mumbai Indians in the 14th match of the tournament. The freak talent was out of action for nearly a month after injuring his right shoulder during the 3rd Test against Australia in Ranchi. He fell awkwardly on his right shoulder and looked in ominous pain. From the looks of things, it didn’t seem too serious but it prevented the star batsman from playing the final Test in Dharamsala and also the first 3 games for Royal Challengers Bangalore.

It was Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma who won the toss and put the hosts in. Kohli mentioned in the toss that they would have fielded first too but batting first isn’t a bad option either. Kohli started taking on the Mumbai bowlers from the outset and never looked like a man returning from an injury.

The flamboyant Delhi lad started off with a couple of fours and a sensational six of Tim Southee. He stepped down the track as if Southee was a spinner and deposited him straight over his head for a huge six. After getting off to a breezy start, Kohli slowed down during the middle of the innings but kept on rotating the strike.

The scoreboard kept moving as Kohli was joined by Mr. 360 AB de Villiers at the dismissal of Chris Gayle. The Proteas power hitter wasn’t able to get going and struggled to hit the big shots but Kohli was going great guns and looked to take Bangalore to a position of strength. In the 14th over Jasprit Bumrah was at the receiving end of Kohli onslaught in the 14th over as the RCB captain smashed him for a four and a six.

He literally thrashed the 5th delivery of Bumrah over the long off region and followed it up with a delicate boundary in the very next delivery. He was unable to convert his fifty into a 5th IPL century but still his 47 balls 62 will surely worry the opposition bowlers going into the tournament. He was eventually dismissed by Kiwis left-arm pacer Mitchell McLeneghan as he attempted a big shot over the extra cover region and was holed out by Jos Buttler.
