Back in August, Ravi Shastri was appointed as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. This is his fourth stint with the national side and his second as the head coach. Back in 2017, he replaced Anil Kumble, who had an altercation with Indian skipper Virat Kohli, for the role. Under him, Team India has done reasonably well, though they are yet to win a major ICC tournament.

He will be with the national team until the 2021 edition of the T20 World Cup in India. His next assignment is the three-match home Test series versus South Africa. He has had to face a lot of criticism on social media platforms for some of his comments. Shastri has been spotted drinking bear and other alcoholic drinks owing to which the netizens have trolled him severely.

Shastri makes a request on Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary

Recently, the experienced campaigner again became a meme material on Twitter. On Tuesday, Shastri, also a former Indian cricketer, urged people on Twitter to be a part of the Plogging Run initiative — an amalgamation of Fit India Movement and Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan — launched by the Union Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his post, Shastri requested people to come out in large numbers to participate in the two km run on the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. He asked the people to support the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) and pick up the litres along the way.

He took to Twitter and wrote. “Please join us on Oct 2nd #GandhiJayanti in the #PloggingRun which is a unique combination of our PM @narendramodi ji’s initiatives – #FitIndiaMovement and #SwachhBharatAbhiyaan. Credit to @KirenRijiju ji & team for making this happen #JaiHind,”

However, the post didn’t go down well with the users on Twitter by any stretch of the imagination. Some of them reminded him that it’s dry day on October 2 while a few of them asked him to pick up whiskey bottles from the road and not leave them.
