Arjun Tendulkar, for the first time in his career, is set to feature in the auction for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Last month, Arjun, the son of the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, made his debut for Mumbai in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy where he played two matches.

In the tournament, he picked up two wickets but leaked runs at an expensive economy. The auction is scheduled to take place on Thursday, February 18 in Chennai. The eight franchises will be finalising their squads in the mini-auction, which will be telecasted live from 3:00 PM IST onwards.

Fans call for Arjun Tendulkar’s inclusion

In the meantime, Mumbai Indians’ (MI) fans reckon that the five-time IPL champions, led by Rohit Sharma, should go for Arjun in the upcoming auction.

On February 11, MI dropped a tweet, asking for some suggestions from the fans on the social media platform. And the fans were clear cut in their opinions to go for Arjun.

Here’s how the netizens reacted:

Though Arjun is yet to make a mark at the highest level, Sachin, his father, doesn’t want him to lose focus by any means. In an earlier interview, Tendulkar told that he want to give his son enough freedom to move ahead in his career.

“He’s trying. Like my father gave me freedom, I’m giving him freedom. Whatever he wants to be in life, he has to give his best, Comparisons would happen; if they want to do it, they will,” Sachin was quoted as saying earlier.

“But what I’ve learned from my father is that whatever work you’ve got to do, keep your focus on that. The rest of the things will continue to happen. Ups and downs are part and parcel of life.

“That’ll happen as long as you stay passionate. Then, you will be in a position to overcome those obstacles. You’ll push yourselves,” he stated.

“And I’ve tried to do that. My experience was really good, the way my father gave me freedom, responsibility came alongside that freedom. So that is what I am trying to do. He should be “Arjun”. There shouldn’t be any comparison,” Sachin added.
