Pakistani umpire Aleem Dar had to face a lot of embarrassment following the involvement of his two sons in Scotland. According to the report in ESPNcricinfo, Dar’s sons, Ali Dar (aged 18) and Hassan Dar (aged 16), claimed to be Scottish nationals in order to be a part of a leading cricket club in Scotland.

When the authorities came to know about the falsity of their claims, the cricket club that were playing for, Kilmarnock Cricket Club, was expelled from first division of the Western District Cricket Union in Scotland.

Ali and Hassan played with names Umer Mustafa and Saleh Mustafa for the club in the 2015 season. Interestingly, Aleem Dar was present at the venue watching his sons in one of the fixtures of the tournament, the match against Stenhousemuir.

“I do confirm that I, along with my wife, went to watch the game but it was a friendly game I thought,” Dar told ESPNcricinfo. “I went there to watch my sons and nephew Azeem, but I didn’t know that my sons were playing with different names,” he further added.

Aleem Dar further stressed on the fact that his sons are proud to be Pakistanis and have Pakistan passports. “My sons are too young to tamper with the personal details,” Dar added. “Both have Pakistani passports and they are proud to be Pakistanis. We have no doubt about that at any level. This entire story seems to be some kind of misunderstanding,” Dar quoted further.

The Kilmarnock Cricket Club has now been relegated to the second tier and the Western Union officially declared their demotion following breach of rules. “We received information regarding possible breaches of league rules and our investigation proved this to be the case,” declared a Western Union official. “The CMC [Cricket Management Committee] has decided to follow precedent by deducting all the points gained by Kilmarnock in the matches in which the two illegally registered players participated. Kilmarnock have therefore been deducted 49 points and are now relegated,” he announced further.

Kilmarnock accepted the punishment, but insisted it had been misled by “the fraudulent actions of a single committee member”.

Interestingly, Aleem Dar’s nephew, Muhammad Azeem Dar made his debut for the Scotland U19 team earlier this year.
