Virat Kohli and Co registered a thumping victory against Bangladesh on Sunday at the Eden Gardens in the iconic D/N Test. Pacer Umesh Yadav’s five-wicket haul steered the hosts to the victory by an innings and 46 runs. Ishant Sharma clinched the man of the match as well as player of the series trophy. This was also India’s 4th innings win on the bounce, taking their winning streak to seven matches.

Indian skipper Kohli led his team from the front and scored a sublime ton in India’s only innings in the Test. Kohli amassed 136 runs off 194 balls and weaved his ton around 18 fours. The right-hander knock propelled India to post a competitive total of 347 runs on the scoreboard. But the 31-year-old has credited Sachin Tendulkar, who gave Kohli a piece of advice ahead of the pink-ball Test. During the post-match conference, Virat Kohli revealed that he got brilliant advice from Tendulkar on day one, which assisted him to score his century.

Virat Kohli admitted that he had to change his batting strategy for the D/N Test

“The afternoon session was relatively easier. Actually, I spoke to Sachin paaji on the evening of the first day and he made a very interesting point as well. Probably with the pink ball, you have to treat the second session like the morning session when it’s getting darker and the ball starts to swing and seam,” said Kohli at the post-match conference.

So, the first session you invariably play as you play from lunch to tea in a normal timing test match, then the second session would be like a morning session and the last session is like that evening session,” he added.

Kohli also highlighted that as a captain in the inaugural pink-ball Test of India, he had to modify his strategies and thinking. He also admitted that daylight plays a vital role in the Day/Night Test. Talking about his experience of playing Test cricket under lights, Kohli correlated it with an IPL game and regarded it as a new challenge for him.

“As a batsman, you enjoy situations where you are challenged and you have to get into Test match zone and grind a good spell of bowling out or challenging session out. I enjoyed that challenge,” concluded Kohli.
