Former Indian opener Virender Sehwag who was one of the most destructive batsmen during his playing days has called Muthiah Muralitharan as the most feared bowler during his 14 years long international career. Both were involved in numerous duels with each other during their illustrious careers. Sehwag said that it was difficult to pick Murali both because of his action and the length he bowled at. “It was difficult playing him, both due to his bowling action and his length.” the ‘Nawab of
“It was difficult playing him, both due to his bowling action and his length.” the ‘Nawab of Najafgarh” said at the Hindustan Times Palate Fest. They had several battles against each other with Murali dismissing him on three occasions. Some of their notable battles go way back in 2008 when the opener tormented Ajanta Mendis and Murali during India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2008.
He smashed an unbeaten double century which contained some audacious shots but despite his heroics, India went on to lose the Test match. His greatest performance against Murali came a year later when he smashed the Sri Lankan attack all round the Brabourne Stadium to score 293. Murali was at the centre of controversy for his unusual action which was deemed illegal by many umpires but he fought through his difficut phase and came back stronger and went on to bag 800 wickets in his Test career. Sehwag, on the other hand, was one of the most feared batsmen during his career and destroyed star-studded bowling attacks with disdain during his peak.
After his retirement, Viru continues to entertain us through his micro-blogging site twitter with his hilarious and out of the box tweets. He has regularly fished famous celebrities and cricketers on their birthdays. Not only has Sehwag gained popularity on twitter, he has spread his territory and has become a humourist on Youtube with a show named “Viru Ke Funde” which covers everything from how to conciliate with your mother-in-law to avoid paying income tax and how to learn English as an adult.
