VVS Laxman names the toughest bowler he faced in his career

The batsman of VVS Laxman’s class can never be replaced. His contribution to the Indian cricket is immense. Known for his wristy flicks, the former cricketer played some memorable knocks during his illustrious career but his 281-run effort against Australia is still considered among the best. He also dedicated his recently released book name also to that knock and it busy promoting it these days.

During his illustrious 134-Test career, India’s former number six Test batsman amassed 8781 runs at an impeccable average of 46 with 17 tons and 56 scores in excess of 50. His ability to bat with the tail made him one of the best in the business even as a player like him also struggled at some point during his 16-year international career.

Meanwhile, Laxman picked Wasim Akram as the toughest bowler he has ever faced during his heydays at the India Today Conclave South 2018. Pakistan’s left-arm bowler was one of its kind who used to run through any batting line-up on his day.

Wasim’s career

Wasim Akram is still the best left-arm pace bowler the game has ever seen. His ability to swing the ball both ways and then bring the reverse swing into the equation earned him a lot of wickets in ODIs and Tests. Having made his international debut in 1984, Wasim went on to pick 502 wickets in 356 One-Day Internationals while he was even better in the longest format accounting for 414 scalps in 104 Tests with 25 five-wicket hauls to his name.

Laxman, during the event, was also told to pick one of Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli who are considered as the top batsmen of their era. While Sachin ruled the hearts during his 24-year marathon career, the current Indian captain is creating and breaking records at will with his superb batting. Laxman, in this case opted to stay out stating that both are legends and didn’t specifically pick any particular one.
