Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer is reportedly in contention to join Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) game development wing. He would be working with the Bangladesh U19 team and at the high-performance center. In 2019, Jaffer worked with the Bangladesh U16 to U19 teams along with as a batting consultant at the BCB academy in Mirpur.

Jaffer was also part of the Dhaka Premier League, where he played for Abahani Limited in 2018-19. In 2020, the former Indian opener was named the head coach of Uttarakhand, but he resigned shortly after a dispute with the state association.

The former cricketer was given a two-year contract by the Odisha Cricket Association in July 2021. The 44-year-old served as the head coach of the Odisha senior men’s side during the 2021-22 Indian domestic season. Moreover, Jaffer was part of the IPL franchise Punjab Kings as a batting consultant between 2019 to 2021.

Wasim Jaffer is one of the most decorated players in the history of Ranji cricket

The cricket expert made his debut for the Indian Test side in 2000 but got limited chances in the team as the squad was packed with stars like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Rahul Dravid, Virender Sehwag, and VVS Laxman. The right-handed batter made 31 appearances for the Test team, scoring five centuries with a highest score of 212.

The lack of opportunities at the international level meant that Jaffer had to ply his trade in the domestic circuit. A career that spanned over two decades saw Jaffer become the most capped player in Ranji Trophy history. He is the only player to have more than 1000 runs in a Ranji season on two occasions. Jaffer is also the highest run-getter in Ranji history with 12038 runs to his name.

He also ended with the most centuries, 40, and most catches, 200, in the history of Ranji Trophy. Jaffer, in his prime in the late 2000s, led the Mumbai side to their 38th and 39th Ranji title. He also steered West Zone to their 16th Duleep trophy title in 2010. Jaffer is also the highest run-scorer in the Duleep Trophy (2545) and the Irani Trophy/Cup (1294).
