elgar-catch-dropAustralian opener David Warner was lucky enough to get a second chance in the Hobart Test. A very weird duck by Dean Elgar in the slips gave Warner a second go at the Proteas bowling in the second innings. It was only unfortunate for the Australian team fans that Warner could not make the most out of the chance given to him. Warner was soon dismissed on 45 as Australia look struggling to save the Test.

South Africa bundled out Australia for a paltry 85 in the first innings. Australian skipper Steve Smith was the last man standing on 48 as Vernon Philander bagged five-wicket haul. Things turned from bad to worse when South Africa batted exceedingly well on the same track. Owing to a century by Quinton de Kock, South Africa posted a mammoth 326 on the board in their first innings.

Trailing heavily by a country mile, Aussie openers walked in to bat in the second innings. All eyes were set on David Warner who was expected to play a big role. He lost his opening partner Joe Burns cheaply in the very first over. He then tried hard to put some resistance with Usman Khawaja. It was in the 13th over of the match when Kyle Abbott bowled to Warner and the action unfolded.

It was a wide delivery outside off stump as Warner chased it and slashed hard at it. A thick edge was the result of it. The ball went flying in the slips direction. Dean Elgar, the man positioned perfectly for that kind of a shot, surprisingly ducked under the ball. The South African players looked in disbelief at what had perspired.

Perhaps it was the fear and anticipation that the ball was racing a little too fast, Elgar must have ducked under the ball. Warner was batting on 24 at that moment. He went on to add 21 more runs to his score. However, it was Kyle Abbott who had the last laugh. Abbott got through his defenses in the 23rd over to put Australia right on the back foot. Warner scored 45.
