Australian skipper Steve Smith has expressed relief and satisfaction after tasting victory for the first time in their ongoing tour of Sri Lanka. Before commencing the live chat on his Facebook page, Smith acknowledged that the last couple of weeks were disappointing for his team but after the win the first ODI, he is now looking forward to win the upcoming game and get near to clinch the 5-match ODI series.

The Aussies started off on a positive note in the ODI series with a fighting 3 wicket win in the first ODI in Colombo. Skipper Steve Smith and Aaron Finch played decisive roles in the win and scored match-defining half-centuries to help his team taste the first win of the tour.

“We played some really good cricket in the first game the other night and win the game and go 1-0 up in the series in the best of five series. We have another game tomorrow (Wednesday), it will be nice to go 2-0 and have only one more to win to get the series. It’s looking to be another great series.”

During the live chat, Smith answered a variety of questions related to captaincy, love for the game and other things.

He began with talking about the most challenging aspect of leading the Australian team. Smith said: It’s a very tough job. It takes a lot of time. It’s a great role to be in and am honored to be the captain of the Australian Cricket team. I work with a terrific bunch of guys. I try and improve and get better every day. It’s very busy. Lot’s of work behind the scenes and obviously it can be tough out there in the middle sometimes as well. But, am enjoying it.”

Smith also revealed he would have chosen Tennis if he had not been a cricketer.

“If I wouldn’t have been a cricketer; I would have loved to be a Tennis player. I played quite a bit when I was a kid until about I was 16 years old. Roger Federer is my favorite athlete of all time.”

The spinning conditions in Sri Lanka was the main reason why the Aussies were made to taste the dirt in the Test series. It was clearly visible that the current team lacked the ability to counter spin bowling. Adjusting to the turning tracks looked very difficult despite some of them regularly playing in the sub-continental conditions. A fan also had a similar a question, asking whether IPL plays a role while adjusting to these conditions.

“Yeah, I think they do. A lot of the wickets don’t spin as much as the ones which we have experienced over here. But, lot of the training wicket that we play and prepare on do have a lot in them. It’s a great learning curve to face a lot of the net bowlers and our own team. We’ve not done well over here as batsmen. But, IPL does play a great role in getting better at playing in foreign conditions”

Smith also expressed his willingness to score more hundreds in the One-day format. “Yeah I will like to score a few more hundreds. That will be nice. But, the wickets have been pretty tough. But, as long as my team is winning and we’re doing well then that’s more important thing. Hopefully a big score in the game tomorrow.”
