Shubman Gill continued his solid form in the series as he scored run-a-ball 98 in a rain-curtailed dead rubber to help India in completing a 3-0 whitewash against West Indies at Port of Spain in Trinidad. The right-handed opener struck seven fours and two sixes while captain Shikhar Dhawan also hit a half-century as team India registered their consecutive whitewash series victory against the Men in Maroon. Notably, West Indies lost by the same margin earlier in the year when they visited India.
Speaking of how the third and the final encounter panned out, Dhawan won the toss and elected to bat first. He amassed 58 off 74 with the help of seven fours with Shreyas Iyer also extending his supreme touch against the Caribbean side by scoring 44 off 34 with four fours and a maximum. Iyer has now racked up 507 runs in nine innings at an average of 56.33 with seven half-centuries against West Indies. Gill missed out on a well-deserving maiden century with rain playing the spoilsport. The visitors reached a total of 225/3 in 36 overs.
Mohammed Siraj got rid of both Kyle Mayers and Shamarh Brooks for a duck while the centurion from the last match Shai Hope got dismissed for 22. Brandon King and skipper Nicholas Pooran both scored 42 apiece but the hosts never really looked in the hunt for the run-chase. Spinner Yuzvendra Chahal picked up 4/17 in four overs as West Indies got bundled out for just 137. Shardul Thakur and Chahal ended the series with joint-most wickets (7) to their name while Gill scored the most runs (205) and got adjudged with the Player of the Match and the Series award.
Meanwhile, here are some of the important stats and numbers from the 3rd ODI between West Indies and India:
