'Where’s my name?' - Yuzvendra Chahal after Chess Federation of India announces its squad

Yuzvendra Chahal, the Indian spinner has become a regular face of Team India in the limited-overs. He started hogging the headlines due to his brilliant spin bowling on the field. Earlier, he was a great player of chess as well. Meanwhile, Chahal recently looked a bit disappointed over the fact that his name was not there in one of the lists shared by Indian Chess Federation.

It is well-known that he is a fine player of chess and he even used to play it at a professional level. He is the former junior national chess champion. He currently has an Elo rating of 1956 and he had earlier won National U-12 Championship that was held in Kolkata. The 29-year-old Indian spinner achieved all this success in chess before shifting his focus to cricket.

Yuzvendra Chahal has been active on social media amid lockdown

He recently played in an online competition conducted by Chess.com. Chahal had India’s second-youngest Grandmaster– R Praggnanandhaa– as one of his competitors in that tournament. It looks like Chahal might have become an international cricketer but he still loves playing chess.

Recently, the Chess Federation took to their official Twitter handle and shared a list of all the players going to take part in the Nations Cup. The list comprised of four main players and two reserved players. There post read,” Team India  for the FIDE, Chess.com  Online #NationsCup, Team advisor: Vladimir Kramnik, Viswanathan Anand (2751), Vidit Gujrathi (2636), Pentala Harikrishna (2690), Humpy Koneru (2483), Reserve players: Adhiban Baskaran (2624) & Harika Dronavalli (2450).”

As soon as Chahal came across that post, he quickly responded to that post and asked where is his name in the list. He took to his official Twitter handle and wrote, “Where’s my name ?.”

Afterwards, Chess Federation of India asked him to do commentary in that tournament. To which, Chahal replied in affirmation and said that he would love to do that in the tournament. Coming on to cricket, he was all set to play for Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020. But, BCCI had to postpone the tournament for an indefinite period due to Coronavirus outbreak.
