It has indeed been a while since Fidel Edwards burst on the scene with his slingshot action and firy pace that troubled batsmen and sent the odd shiver down their spine. Now, at 36, Edwards is more or less content playing club and domestic cricket, something that allows him to hurl down his thunderbolts at will.

Recently, Edwards was asked to name his all-time XI, similar to those who have been naming them for as long as one can remember. As many predecessors had done, Edwards went ahead and chosegus former partner-in-crime Chris Gayle. The 38-year old is currently one of the hottest commodities in international cricket today.

Matthew Hayden joins Gayle to make it a double left-handed opening pair. Sachin Tendulkar and Brian Lara, two of perhaps the best cricketers of the generation are in the squad. Sir Garfield Sobers, arguably the best all-rounder in the world is also a part of the side with Edwards optin to go ahead with Jacques Kallis, the second in command for Sobers.

Adam Gilchrist has been named as the captain as well as wicketkeeping-batsman with Gilchrist’s compatriot Shane Warne – perhaps the best bowler of the generation. Wasim Akram joins the pace bowling attack with Curtly Ambrose, someone Edwards was tipped to succeed and Malcolm Marshall, perhaps the best bowler West Indies cricket has ever produced.

Here is the Fidel Edwards All -Time XI
