Chris Gayle has become a synonym of T20 cricket. You name a batting record and the big Jamaican has that under his belt. He has hit most T20 tons, 21 to be precise, the second in the list is Michael Klinger with 7 centuries in the format. The explosive batsman took no time in proving the point that why he is termed as the most dangerous T20 batsman in the world. In the 4 innings that Gayle featured for Kings XI Punjab, he has hit a ton and a couple of half-centuries to go with it.

However, the 38-year Gayle found no buyers during the IPL auction which took place in the month of January. Gayle had a poor outing in the previous edition for the Royal Challengers Bangalore which would’ve played on the minds of the team owners. Gayle while in conversation with TOI Sports talked about the feeling when he saw no franchise willing to take the left-handed Gayle.

King was destined to play for Kings XI: Gayle

Gayle while answering the question of not being picked for a couple of times when his name popped up said that he was surprised seeing no one was interested in picking him. Gayle said that in the tournament like IPL, things like these can happen. He added that he had moved on from that disappointment.

Gayle said that he has been enjoying his time with the new franchise and suggested that it was destined that King Gayle will play for Kings XI. “Like I said, it’s a great opportunity to be playing for King XI Punjab and so far I’ve had a great time. Perhaps it was supposed to happen, you know. King Gayle; destined to be playing for Kings XI Punjab,” said the swashbuckling Gayle.

Want to win the IPL and World Cup for West Indies

When asked about his next target going forward, Gayle suggested that he wants to win the IPL this season and then wants to win the 50-over World Cup for West Indies. Gayle feels that West Indies after qualifying in the World Cup through the Qualifiers has a great chance of winning the trophy.

Gayle asserted that at the moment, his priority is winning the IPL for Kings XI who are yet to win the trophy in previous 10 editions of the tournament. Gayle hailed the owner, Preity Zinta for her support to the team.
