Veteran batter Yuvraj Singh has opened up about his innings which he played during the final match of the 2014 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against Sri Lanka. He said that his confidence was hampered due to the lack of support from the team management.

It may be noted that team India was the side to beat during the 2014 T20 WC as they won all four of their group stage matches before beating South Africa in the semi-finals to qualify for the title match against Sri Lanka. However, the Men in Blue disappointed their fans as they managed to score only 130 runs in their 20 overs at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka which their opponents managed to chase down comfortably to lift their maiden T20 world title.

The left-handed batter played a bizarre inning of 11 runs using up as many as 21 balls, which led India to post a below-par total on the board. However, Yuvraj Singh has now opened up saying that his confidence was impacted by the lack of support from the team management which ultimately resulted in his horror show with the bat.

“During the T20 World Cup in 2014, I was very low on confidence. There was an atmosphere where I could get dropped. It’s not an excuse but I wasn’t getting enough support from the team. From the time of Gary, I was in Duncan’s era and things had completely changed in the team,” Yuvraj said during an interview with News18.

“When the final came, I just couldn’t hit the ball. I tried to hit the off-spinner and I couldn’t hit it and it went for dots. I tried to get out, but I didn’t get out….Everybody thought my career was over after that. I also thought my career was over. But that’s life. You have to accept that. If you accept glories, you must accept your defeats as well and you must move forward,” the veteran added.
