Leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal who has had an impressive outing in the 1st T20I against England looked confident ahead of the must-win encounter at Nagpur on Sunday. Chahal picked up English openers Jason Roy and Sam Billings in his very first over during the 1st encounter before Eoin Morgan and Joe Root came together and stitched a crucial partnership to ensure England reached the target without further hiccups.

Chahal feels that big grounds like the one in Jamtha provides him with a chance to bowl more tossed up deliveries and lure the batsmen into playing a drive and a create a sense of doubt in the batsmen’s mind. While on a smaller ground, the batsman can for big shots from the outset, but here they have to pick and choose. The boundaries are 75 yard which is almost 10 yards bigger than the one at Kanpur. It might just provide the fielding side with little more opportunities of catches near the boundary.

“Big ground makes a difference. You can flight the ball,” Chahal was quoted as saying by the Cricket Country. He further added that he remained confident even when the English openers were going hammers and tongs as their aggressive approach also provided him with an opportunity to get rid of them. “We have not discussed (bowling strategy), but the way they batted in the previous game gives a plus point to the bowlers as they were trying to hit each and every ball. I got hit for a six on the first ball and then I got a wicket,” Chahal added.

“You have got six balls while the batsman has just one ball. You have to plan accordingly because T20 is such a quick format where you have to be on your toes always as you don’t what will happen next,” the wiry framed spinner said. Chahal conceded that he was a tad nervous going into the match as this was his first assignment in India colours since the tour of Zimbabwe under Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

“This was my first series after the tour of Zimbabwe, and that too at home. I was a bit nervous at the start. After bowling the first over I gained confidence. Playing in India, the ground is always full and there is the pressure of the home crowd, but things became better although I was a bit nervous in the beginning,” said Chahal who finished with impressive figures of 2/27 in his allotted 4 overs.

Chahal concluded by saying that he will try to bowl stump to stump and according to the match situation. “My aim is to bowl stump-to-stump. It will be based on situation and the wicket when I come to bowl, which side of the ground is bigger.”
