Zimbabwe Cricket has gone through some turbulent times over the last few months, especially after the Zimbabwe team failed to qualify for the 2019 World Cup to be played in England. The team had to feature in the World Cup Qualifiers, but they had a dismal time in the tournament and the dreams shattered. Former Zimbabwean captain and head coach Heath Streak was sacked, in spite of Zimbabwe Cricket owing him a massive sum of R1.8 million. Meanwhile, the board is yet to pay former batting coach Lance Klusener R170,000.

Owing to the same, Heath Streak had formally applied to court asking it to liquidate ZC. This move is an attempt for the board to pay off its hefty debts. According to ESPNCricinfo, the 8-page document was submitted to the High Court in Harare last week. Streak has also claimed that ZC is currently being managed in a ‘reckless and negligent manner’.

Where is Klusener now?

Lance Klusener has in the meantime been appointed in the Delhi domestic’s coaching staff for the Ranji Trophy. ‘Zulu’ has also replaced former New Zealand all-rounder Daniel Vettori as head coach of the Rajshahi Kings in the Bangladesh Premier League.

According to Streak’s court application, which was drafted by lawyer Gerald Mlotshwa, ZC ‘mismanaged loans and grants that were advanced to it by the International Cricket Council and failed to make meaningful repayments.’ The former Zimbabwe skipper has also named Winsley Malitala as a provisional liquidator.

Klusener was one of South Africa’s most popular and successful all-rounders. He scored over 3500 runs in ODI cricket, and bagged a total of 192 wickets. He was known for his thunderous hitting as well as his ability to deliver with the ball when the need arose.
