Believe it or not, at the age of 4, Shayan Jamal is selected to represent his school’s U-12 team. Shayan is a KG student at the Hamdard Public School in Delhi’s Sangam Vihar.

From the age of three, the kid is a keen cricket follower and cricket lover, which made him pick up the bat and guess what, in a fairy tale story he seems to be destined for greatness.

“I want to play for India one day, like Virat Kohli. I admire him because he is a good batsman and scores centuries,” says the KG student Shayan.

The most impressive aspect of his game is his defense. The 4-year old has a solid defensive shot and an elegant cover drive to go with it. He has excelled far beyond what a similar kid would even dream off and his father Arshad Jamal would be really proud of his success story thus far.

Arshad is a former club level cricketer who owns a modest business in Delhi, but as many other fathers, he is trying to achieve his dream through his son. Despite being a businessman, his main focus is to train and guide his son who might be the star of Indian cricket in the near future.

“Shayan’s cricketing sense is strong and he is hungry to play cricket. If I give him a break for a day or two, he begins to pester me, asking me ‘why aren’t we going to the nets!’ His game is natural. I am just trying to mould him,” says Arshad.

“My family and friends think I am wasting my time on Shayan. But I feel God has sent him with exceptional talent. I can’t do injustice to him. I am confident God will show the way,” says the proud father.

Now it is all about, how long Shayan can keep his hunger for runs and if he does, he definitely has a bright future ahead.

“I enjoy playing cricket. I want to play more. I also like fielding,” the kid concludes.
