Following up on their announcement of being the official broadcaster of cricket in Australia for at least the next six years, Fox Sports ropes in former cricketer Adam Gilchrist to be the voice of their cricket coverage. Gilchrist will be spearheading the cricket commentary on the Fox Sports network across all formats of the game. The rest of the team is yet to be announced, but veteran cricket experts Allan Border and Brendan Julian are already a part of it.

For the first time in history, all the matches Australia plays at home or away will be aired uninterrupted and ad-free upon subscription of Fox Sports. This is a great scoop for the channel as well as a convenience for the viewers of Australian cricket. The six-year deal with Cricket Australia and the public channel Seven Network went down at $1.182 billion on April 13. Fox Sports Australia starts their tenure with the Pakistan series in UAE from October 2018.

CEO of Fox Sports, Patrick Delany is very much confident about the impact a personality like Gilchrist will have on the audience. In his opinion, the accurate yet humorous style of commentary of Gilchrist is exactly what the channel needs for their success. “Gilly is one of the most loved cricketers of all time. He will lead the Fox Cricket coverage working across all three forms of the game,” Delany said. “Fans love his opinion and analysis, the way he combines pure class and humour.”

He firmly believes that the wicketkeeper-batsman will set the same standard over here as he did during his playing days behind the stump and in front of it. “In the same way he set a new standard for what a wicketkeeper-batsman did in today’s game, Gilly will be the perfect person to front the most innovative cricket coverage on TV. We are building a formidable team and the only place to watch is on Foxtel.”

Excited about the new venture

Gilchrist himself is also visibly excited about his new venture. He is very much thrilled to be serving the game that he played his whole life, now as a commentator. “Sport has been a major part of my life, as a player and now a commentator, so to join a network that is 100 percent focused on the sport is something I am extremely excited about,” Gilchrist said. “Fox Sports’ new partnership with cricket has seen a big commitment to the game — a game that I clearly love — and I can’t wait to be a part of the family.”

He also praised Fox Sports for bringing such vast and all-encompassing, yet diverse cricket watching experience to the viewers. “It’s a changed landscape for cricket coverage in this country, where viewers have more choice and more variety than ever — and this will be great for the game,” he said about the channel.

Fox Sports will also be telecasting the Big Bash League and simulcasting 23 Women’s Big Bash League matches with the Seven Network. List A matches and first-class matches like JLT Cup and Sheffield Shield final are also returning to the small screen holding the hand of Fox Sports.

The Prime Minister’s XI and Governor-General’s XI matches will also be aired on the network.
