After brilliance on the field, Iyer-Shaw combine for a rap song

Iyer and Shaw were the stars for DD in their win over KKR.

Under the young leadership of 23-year-old Shreyas Iyer, Delhi Daredevils (DD) registered their 2nd win of the tournament in 7 games. Gautam Gambhir, the man who was named as skipper of the side at the start of the season opted to quit captaincy following a string of unfavourable results. When the team for the match was named Gambhir’s name didn’t appear in the XI. Young Prithvi Shaw got the opportunity to open the innings and he made it count with his maiden half century.

Daredevils were under immense pressure when they arrived at their home ground, the Feroz Shah Kotla for their encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders. To keep their chances of making it to the playoffs alive, DD needed to win at all costs. After a quickfire start from Collin Munro, Shaw combined with Iyer to put on a tremendous partnership which steered the side on their way to a massive total.

Young guns fire for Delhi

The duo added 68 runs for the second wicket, Shaw hit 7 fours and a couple of sixes in his knock worth 62 which he scored from 44 deliveries. Shaw punished former Australia pacer, Mitchell Johnson. Iyer, on the other hand, took the responsibility upon himself to take the team to a beyond par total, he pummeled Andre Russell and India U19 bowler Shivam Mavi. The 23-year-old thrashed Mavi in the last over of the innings to collect 29 runs to steer Delhi’s total to 219 runs.

DD while defending the total did not look in any sort of trouble as regular wickets kept the KKR way off course from the chase. In the middle overs, Russell did cut lose but the pressure of the required rate meant that he eventually lost his wicket searching for quick runs. Eventually, Delhi bagged the match, winning by 55 runs.

They say you play hard, party harder. The two young Indians decided to celebrate hard as they danced on a rap song. A video posted on Instagram shows Iyer and Shaw mimicking and lip syncing a song and move along.
