India didn’t have the most memorable of returns to international cricket after a gap of nine months. Virat Kohli and Co locked horns with Australia in the opening ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground and ended up losing the match by 66 runs.

Once they were sent in to field first, nothing went right for the Men in Blue, whose bowlers were carted all along the park by the Aussies. Aaron Finch and Steve Smith’s tons helped the hosts amass 374 on the board. In the run-chase, India started off in an attacking manner, but a flurry of wickets in the middle overs pegged them back.

In the end, the target turned out to be a bridge too far for them. Going into the second match, Team India have to be on their toes as another defeat would dash their hopes of winning the series.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in Sydney didn’t have much for the bowlers in Friday’s match. The batters were able to play their shots freely and get runs without dropping much sweat. Also, in the last six one-dayers at the venue, the team batting first went on to win the match.

Hence, chasing can be a tough task. The temperature will be between 28 and 38 degrees Celsius. The humidity won’t be high either.

Playing Combinations for AUS vs IND

Australia

The Aussies may be forced to make an unformed change. Marcus Stoinis sustained a side strain last time around and he has become uncertain for the game. If he doesn’t play, Cameron Green is mostly likely to make his debut. Finch, David Warner and Steve Smith looked in ominous touch last time.

Glenn Maxwell also returned to form after a lacklustre campaign in the IPL. In the bowling department, Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa delivered the body blows. Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc tended to strain a wee bit, and need to be a bit more consistent, getting amongst the wickets.

Probable XI: Aaron Finch (C), David Warner, Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Glenn Maxwell, Marcus Stoinis/Cameron Green, Alex Carey (WK), Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa

India

India’s bowling was a major point of concern in the previous encounter. Barring Mohammed Shami, no other bowler was able to make a mark. Yuzvendra Chahal and Navdeep Saini leaked runs at an alarming rate as well. India also didn’t have a sixth bowler, whom Kohli could turn to in a crisis.

The Men in Blue might pick Shardul Thakur in place of Saini for the must-win encounter. In the batting department, Shikhar Dhawan and Hardik Pandya were the bright spots for India. Skipper Kohli would wish to make amends after the rash shot he played and got out to Hazlewood.

Probable XI: Shikhar Dhawan, Mayank Agarwal, Virat Kohli (C), Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur/Navdeep Saini, Yuzvendra Chahal, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah
