Both Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers haven’t had the greatest of times in the 2019-20 edition of the Big Bash League (BBL), The Moises Henriques-led Sixers started with an eight-wicket victory over the Scorchers at the Sydney Cricket Ground. But in their last two matches, Brisbane Heat and Hobart Hurricanes have slapped them with defeats. The Sixers are placed sixth on the points table.

The Scorchers gained some momentum, beating Melbourne Renegades, but slumped to a defeat by 15 runs (DLS Method) at the hands of Adelaide Strikers. The Scorchers will also be concerned about their net run rate of -1.018, the worst amongst the eight teams. Both the Sixers and Scorchers will be desperate for a victory at the Perth Stadium. It’s also a chance for Perth to avenge their last defeat.

Pitch and Conditions

The pitch in Perth was an absolute belter last time around. In 36 overs, 381 runs were scored in the rain-curtailed game. Thursday’s match doesn’t have forecast for rain though. But the clouds will be there. Keeping in mind the nature of the strip, batting second won’t be a bad choice. The temperature will be around the 25 degrees Celsius mark with the humidity mostly in the 60s.

Team Combination

Perth Scorchers

Matt Kelly, who was suffering from illness, has made his way back into the squad. Singapore’s Tim David has also gotten a call-up. Liam Guthrie and Sam Whiteman had to make way for Kelly and David. The Scorchers’ bowling has been a concern since most of the bowlers have economy rates around nine. In batting, Marsh, Livingstone, Inglis and Bancroft have done well to a large extent.

Probable XI

Josh Inglis (wk), Liam Livingstone, Ashton Turner, Mitchell Marsh (C), Cameron Bancroft, Ashton Agar, Cameron Green/Tim David, Chris Jordan, Jhye Richardson, Joel Paris, Fawad Ahmed

Sydney Sixers

The Sixers have persisted with the same squad despite the defeat last time around. Josh Phillippe has an 81* under his belt, but looked a tad out of sorts against the Heat. Hughes needs to fire at the earliest. It’s also time for Vince to shoulder a bit more responsibility. Their bowling has been their stronger point. Abbott and Manenti have six wickets each and have gotten support from the others.

Probable XI

Daniel Hughes, Josh Phillippe (wk), James Vince, Moises Henriques (C), Jordan Silk, Tom Curran, Hayden Kerr, Sean Abbott, Ben Dwarshuis, Ben Manenti, Lloyd Pope
