Ben Dwarshuis floors Glenn Maxwell with an unintentional beamer in BBL 2019-20

Glenn Maxwell has been trending like wildfire on social media. Every (most of them) Australian fan wants to see the ‘Big Show’ as a regular part of the national side One-day International, especially after the current candidates for the middle-order cut a sorry tale in the recently concluded One-day International series against India.

Such is the aura of Maxwell- ‘The finisher’ that even the Indian captain Virat Kohli was puzzled when he found out that Maxwell is not in the Aussie touring party. Maxwell is, of-course, currently plying his trade in the Big Bash League for his franchise, Melbourne Stars where he is not lighting up the tournament with his 360-degree strokeplay and handy off-spin bowling, but also as a leader.

But, Monday turned out to be an indifferent day for both Maxwell and his table-toppers- Melbourne Stars as their eight-match winning streak was finally ended by the Moises Henriques-led Sydney Sixers. But, Maxwell still found a way to trend all over social media, albeit due to a blooper by Sixers left-arm bowler Ben Dwarshuis.

It all happened during the 10th over of the Stars run-chase when the bowl slipped out of Dwarshuis hand to dangerously hit Glenn Maxwell’s bat as he tried to duck under it. Maxwell was taken aback by Dwarshuis beamer. And, the bowler immediately proceeded to apologize to the all-rounder, Maxwell.

Ben Dwarshuis played a key role in Sydney Sixers successful defence

That beamer notwithstanding Ben Dwarshuis had a great outing on Tuesday as he spearheaded Sixers’ bowling unit in their defence of 4-143 in a rain-affected 14-over-a-side encounter. The southpaw claimed 2-20 in his three overs which included the prizes scalps of opener Hilton Cartwright [21] and Nic Maddinson [16]

Earlier, Sydney Sixers batted first and on the back of a whirlwind 31-ball 72- an innings which includes just two fours but eight monstrous sixes. English batsman James Vince provided the finishing touches to the innings with an equally whirlwind 22-ball 41 (not-out).

Chasing 144 in 14 overs, Stars needed their two superstars in Marcus Stoinis and Glenn Maxwell to step-up and even though the former played his part with a swashbuckling 37-ball 62, Maxwell uncharacteristically held himself back and only came into bat when the required run-rate had already climbed over 14.
