The ninth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is all set to kick off with a match between Chattogram Challengers and Sylhet Strikers on Friday, January 06, 2023, at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. Both sides will meet again later in the campaign in match no. 28 on January 28 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium in Sylhet.

Speaking about last year’s edition, the Challenger, after winning five encounters in the league stage and the eliminator, lost in Qualifier two against Comilla Victorians as they failed to reach the final of the BBL 8. On the other hand, the Strikers had a disastrous campaign as they lost eight out of the ten matches played to finish at rock bottom sixth position in the table with just three points.
In Head-to-Head contests, Chattogram has an edge over Sylhet as they have sealed victories on five out of the eight occasions against them.

West Indian Andre Fletcher leads the batting chart with 207 runs to his name in these fixtures. The destructive right-handed batter is followed by Will Jacks (144) and Sikandar Raza (138). In the bowling department, seam bowler Taskin Ahmed is on top of picking up nine wickets followed by Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, Ebadot Hossain and Nasir Hossain (six wickets each), and Mehidy Hasan Rana, Hardus Viljoen, Krishmar Santokie and Rubel Hossain (four wickets each).
Both teams last met in Match no. 29 last season in which the Challengers emerged victorious by a margin of four wickets. Skipper Ravi Bopara struck 44 while Lendl Simmons amassed 42 as the Sylhet Strikers reached a competitive total of 185/6 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, opener Will Jacks hammered an unbeaten 92 off just 57 to seal the deal for his side in 19.1 overs.
