Emboldened Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will look to showcase their best against the table-toppers Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their next match at their home venue at the M. Chinnnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. In their previous outing, the Challengers clinched a 24-run victory against the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and lifted their position on the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 points table. After 2021, Virat Kohli was seen captaining the side for the first time due to Faf du Plessis’s injury.

Interestingly enough, Faf was still playing as an opener, letting the oldest RCB servant in Virat Kohli, who didn’t miss a chance to show his loyalty with his bat and leadership skills. Despite witnessing Kohli’s amazing captaincy against Punjab, RCB supporters will want du Plessis to participate in the next contest against the Sanju Samson-led side as he is nursing rib injury so not playing as a fully fit player at the moment.

So far, RCB have bagged three wins in six matches and they're placed in the fifth position on the IPL points table. The game against Rajasthan will be crucial for the team as they will look to reinforce their campaign to advance to the Playoffs round.

In this year’s competition, the skipper Faf du Plessis is looking in great touch with his bat. Scoring 343 runs in six innings of six matches at a jaw-dropping strike rate of 166.50, he is the highest run-getter in the tournament so far. Till now, the Protea has played his part excellently, and against the Rajasthan Royals, he will look forward to doing the same.

Along with his opening partner du Plessis, Kohli has also exuded confidence, this season. Thus far, the batting maestro has delivered ferocious starts to the team consistently. With 279 runs in six matches at a fine strike rate of 142.34, he is the third-leading run-scorer in the competition. Against the table-toppers RR, RCB fans will expect him to dominate bowlers with his batting prowess.

Middle-order: Glenn Maxwell, Dinesh Karthik, and Anuj Rawat

Glenn Maxwell has played some remarkable knocks for RCB in the competition. Against quality sides, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he played courageous knocks for his team. However, going through his reputation, the RCB team management will want him to be better and take bowling attacks to the cleaners consistently.

Dinesh Karthik hasn’t performed up to the expectations in the competition so far. In the six innings of the tournament, he has failed to reach double digits in five matches. Against Chennai Super Kings (CSK), he played some explosive strokes but couldn’t take the team home, scoring 28 off 14. In the upcoming games, Karthik will have to deliver solid batting numbers to his team.

Anuj Rawat has got three games so far, in which he got a chance to bat twice. In a losing cause against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), he contributed only one run to his team while chasing a humongous total of 205. He got another opportunity as an impact player against the Delhi Capitals (DC). This was a perfect chance for him to turn up against bowlers, but this time too, he struggled to show confidence by playing a sluggish knock of 15 off 22. Forgetting his previous failures, he will look to make a notable contribution against RR in the upcoming match.

All-rounders: Shahbaz Ahmed

Shahbaz Ahmed’s role will be important in RCB as he serves the team as an all-rounder. With the bat, he has amassed only 38 runs in four innings of six matches at a dismal strike rate of 126.66. In the bowling department too, his contribution is nil as he has failed to pick up any wickets and has also splurged runs at an expensive economy of 10.66. The 28-year-old Bengal player will have to play fearless cricket for Challengers against RR and boost his confidence to return on the track.

Bowlers: Wanindu Hasaranga, Harshal Patel, Wayne Parnell, Mohammed Siraj, and Karn Sharma

In the last IPL season, Wanindu Hasaranga ended up as the leading wicket-taker for RCB with 26 wickets in 16 matches at an economy of 7.54. This year, he was expected to continue his form and win games for Challengers, but thus far, he hasn’t been at his best. The leg-break bowler has picked only four wickets in three matches at an economy of 10.77. The spin wizard will look to amass confidence by picking up wickets in the upcoming contests.

Harshal Patel’s performance in the last game against PBKS (PBKS) will give confidence to himself and the RCB team management. In his team’s fantabulous triumph against Punjab, the pacer chipped in with an economical spell of 1/22 in 3.2 overs. The 32-year-old will strive to take his form ahead against RR and fetch another victory for his team.

In the absence of Reece Topley, Wayne Parnell has done his job efficiently. Banking on his experience and potential, the left-arm medium-fast bowler delivered wicket-taking spells to Challengers. However, his team will want him to be economical in the upcoming contests.

Karn Sharma might return to the RCB playing XI against the Royals to strengthen the spin attack, along with Shahbaz Ahmed. In the first two games, he looked fine with the ball but against LSG, he took only one wicket at a horrendous economy of 16.00 in his three-over spell. If the leggie gets a chance against RR, he will look to grab the opportunity with both hands and emerge as a match-winner.

Mohammed Siraj has been in ominous form with the ball against the rivals. As an efficient opening bowler, the right-arm speedster has provided great starts to the team. His role will be the most important for the three-time IPL runners-up to qualify for the Playoff stage and lift the trophy for the first time. Thus far, the 29-year-old has trapped 12 batters with his speed in six matches of the league at an economy of 6.70.
