Speaking about their head-to-head records, the two sides have played each other twice, with LSG asserting their dominance on each occasion. With only a few matches to go before the playoffs kick in, Lucknow will need to produce results in their favour to make a place in the final four of the event.
Here’s Lucknow Super Giants’ predicted XI against Sunrisers Hyderabad:
Openers: Quinton de Kock (wk), Kyle Mayers
Following the exclusion of regular skipper KL Rahul due to an injury, the think tank backed Quinton de Kock to play his first match in the ongoing season against the defending champions. In the high-scoring run chase, de Kock swiftly hit the ground running and hammered seven boundaries and three sixes to score 70 off 41 balls at a solid strike rate of 170.73.
He will aim to maintain his form in the remainder of the games and help LSG to sneak into the top four of the lucrative T20 league. On the other hand, explosive Caribbean batter Kyle Mayers has displayed his lethal hitting prowess on certain occasions.
Though he fought hard against Gujarat in the previous match, scoring a 32-ball 48, he failed to convert his innings into a bigger knock as it came to a screeching halt by pacer Mohit Sharma. In any case, LSG’s opening pair looks solid and they will be raring to stamp their authority in the remaining games by playing big innings.
Middle Order: Nicholas Pooran, Ayush Badoni
Coming in the middle order, the explosive southpaw, Nicholas Pooran, succumbed under pressure while chasing a 200-plus total against Gujarat. Pooran could only get a meagre three runs off six balls before he headed back to the dugout.
With back-to-back dismal performances by Deepak Hooda throughout the entirety of the season, the think tank will be forced to make a change. The management will likely pin their hopes on Ayush Badoni as he could feature in the XI in the upcoming match.
In the previous game, Badoni came in as the Impact Player and got two sixes and one four in his 21 off 11 balls. During the low-scoring match against CSK, it was Badoni, who carved out a quickfire 59 off 33 balls at a strike rate of 178.78 which steered the side to attain 125 runs. Moreover, he holds the potential to play vital knocks and raise important stands in the middle order.
All-rounders: Marcus Stoinis, Krunal Pandya (c)
The all-rounder duo of Marcus Stoinis and Krunal Pandya failed to play an instrumental innings either with the bat or with the ball. The skipper in his four overs was hammered for 38 runs with an economy of 9.50 and was dismissed for a first-ball duck in the chase.
On the other hand, Stoinis in his solitary over gave away 20 runs and did not get any breakthroughs. With the bat, the Aussie all-rounder got four off nine balls before he was dismissed by seasoned pacer Mohit Sharma. The pair will need to work on improving their game in all aspects and play an integral role in the forthcoming matches if they are to make a place in the playoffs.
Bowlers: Swapnil Singh, Yash Thakur, Ravi Bishnoi, Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan
In the previous clash against Gujarat, the rival batting unit did not find it too challenging to target the LSG bowling attack. However, among the bowlers, Swapnil Singh and Avesh Khan did not give too many runs in their overs as compared with the rest of the unit.
While Swapnil got just one over and gave seven runs, Avesh concluded the match with an economy of 8.50, having given away 34 in his four with one scalp under his belt. On the other hand, Mohsin Khan was targeted for 42 runs in just three overs at a dismal economy of 14.00, despite claiming a wicket.
Yash Thakur too endured a forgettable outing as he leaked 48 runs in his complete four overs. Spinner Ravi Bishnoi too failed to create any kind of impact with the ball as he gave away 21 runs in two overs with an economy of 10.50. As the business end of the season nears, the bowling unit will need to up the ante and look to restrict the rival teams from going overboard with the big runs.
