In today’s competitive quality of cricket, every team needs players who can put up sensational efforts as fielders. As the current World Cup 2023 is happening in India, on the batting surfaces of the sub-continent nation, having top-notch fielders is a necessity for every team.
Witnessing the World Cup 2023 so far, it’s notable how Australia lost their first two games due to their dismal fielding shows. The Aussie side’s under-par fielding performances teach that no side can afford to make mistakes while fielding if it wants to lift the coveted trophy. Talking more, let’s rate the performances of players who looked incredible as fielders, thus far.
Here are the ratings of fielders after the tournament’s second week
10. Ibrahim Zadran- 7/10
Ibrahim Zadran’s responsibility is to deliver fierce starts to Afghanistan as an opener along with Rahmanullah Gurbaz. As a batter, he has struggled to be among the runs, scoring only 86 runs in four matches at a strike rate of 74.13. In the upcoming matches, the Afghan side will expect him to improve his numbers.
Zadran hasn’t done great with his bat but his fielding performance has been decent thus far. The 21-year-old has taken the most number of catches for his team with three grabs in four games. Against India, he assisted Rashid Khan in dismissing Ishan Kishan with an easy catch at short cover.
In his team’s one-sided 69-run win against England in Delhi, Zadran chipped in with 28 off 48 from his bat, and taking the field in the second innings, he looked confident at the short cover again. The youngster took the important catch of Dawid Malan on Mohammad Nabi’s delivery.
