The Indian Premier League (IPL) will return with its 17th season but before that, all franchises will participate in the 2024 IPL auction, which will be held in Dubai On December 19, 2023. At the marquee event, all franchises will get a chance to rebuild their teams and go to the upcoming competition with confidence. The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have INR 31.40 crore remaining in their purse.
Prior to the auction, the Yellow Army released eight players in which high-priced Ben Stokes was also included. With the huge amount left in the wallet, CSK will look to get some quality players. At the business event, CSK can target three players to strengthen their team and defend the title in 2024.
Here are three capped players CSK might target in the 2024 IPL auction
3. Shahrukh Khan
Shahrukh Khan didn’t get a spot in the Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) retention list and he will go under the hammer on December 19, for a base price of INR 40 lakh. The 28-year-old is known for his power-hitting ability and banking on his superb potential, he might attract CSK’s attention in the upcoming event.
Shahrukh plays for Tamil Nadu in India’s domestic cricket which has made him familiar with the conditions at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Riding on his talent and experience, Super Kings can dominate their opponents in crucial home games. The right-handed batter has failed to utilise his talent in the three seasons he played but CSK are known for getting the best out of their players.
Serving Punjab from 2021-23, he has scored only 426 runs in 33 matches at an average of 20.29. If CSK snap up Shahrukh in the upcoming auction, he might be given the responsibility to play the role of a match-finisher in the lower middle order.
