The 2024 edition of the IPL auction will be held on Tuesday, December 19, in Dubai. More than 1100 players have submitted their names for the business event. Before the auction, some players are the favourites to cause a bidding battle among the franchises while a few underrated names can also bag lucrative contracts in the upcoming auction.
In recent times, some players have looked exceptional in their roles but didn’t grab the media attention. These players may reap the benefits of their impressive performances in the upcoming auction. Ahead of the business event, let’s discuss five underrated players who might get big money.
Here are five underrated players who can earn big money in the auction:
5. Mujeeb Ur Rahman
Afghanistan stalwart Mujeeb Ur Rahman hasn’t featured in the cash-rich league since 2022 but this time, his name might attract bidders. The off-break bowler exuded confidence with the ball in the 2023 World Cup. Appearing in nine games of the marquee One-Day International (ODI) event, he took eight wickets at an economy of 5.59.
Back in 2018, he made his IPL debut for Punjab Kings (PBKS) at an early age of 17. Playing his maiden season, he scalped 14 wickets in 11 matches at an economy of 6.99. Following that edition, his performance slumped and before the 2021 auction, Punjab parted ways with him.
This time, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) might invest in the 22-year-old as neither has quality spinners. Rahman plays a lot of league cricket and he has the potential to do wonders with the ball on turning tracks of India.
