The defending champions had a season to forget. Retained players such as Venkatesh Iyer and Sunil Narine did not step up with the bat.</p>
<p>Another key factor was that they let a few games slip, ones they should have ideally won. They crumbled from winning positions to end up just short. Seasoned veterans such as Andre Russell didn't show up as expected. The lack of a dependable overseas quick - like the calibre of Mitchell Starc from last season - made matters worse for KKR.</p>
