Kolkata Knight Riders have been one of the most successful franchises in the history of the Indian Premier League, having won the IPL title in 2012 and 2014. In the 14th edition, the Kolkata franchise also got to the final showdown but suffered defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings.
KKR have played some phenomenal cricket over the years and there have been times when they have etched their names in history books through their exploits on the cricket field. Kolkata have created some mind-boggling records which seem quite tough to be broken by any player or team again in the league.
Here are the five major records made by KKR in IPL history:
5. Most runs in the powerplay
Kolkata Knight Riders met Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 46th match of IPL 2017. KKR won the toss and opted to field as Bangalore posted a fighting total of 158 runs on the board, riding on half-centuries from Mandeep Singh (52 runs off 43 balls) and Travis Head (75 runs off 47 balls).
Sunil Narine and Chris Lynn started proceedings with the bat for Kolkata and completely demolished RCB’s bowling attack. The duo hammered each and every bowler that came their way, blasting 105 runs in the first six overs and made a meal of the target.
Courtesy of the Narine-Lynn show, KKR surpassed Chennai Super Kings to become the team to score the most runs in the powerplay. CSK had made the record against Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings) in the second qualifier of the 2014 season, scoring 100 runs in the first six overs.
KKR won the game comprehensively by six wickets with 29 balls to spare. Narine was adjudged the Player of the Match for his superb all-round performance. The West Indies all-rounder smashed 54 runs off 17 balls and bagged two wickets for his side.
