With the Pat Cummins-led Australia seeking to win the Ashes 2023, the major concern of the team is the form of veteran opener David Warner. The 36-year-old is going through a lean patch, having scored only a half-century in the ongoing five-game series. The southpaw only scored 24 runs in Australia's first innings of the ongoing fifth and final game of the series at The Oval in London.
Former India cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin has some advice for Warner. According to the 60-year-old, the Aussie would be better off hitting inside the crease to oppose the left-handed swing than staying outside to counter the stroke.
"Have been following the Ashes series closely. The way David Warner is getting out, he would be better off batting inside the crease rather than staying outside to counter the swing," Azharuddin wrote on Twitter.
Meanwhile, Warner recently responded to reports which suggested he will announce Test retirement after the final Ashes Test. The 36-year-old indicated that he will not feature in the West Indies but is confident in his abilities to compete in the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024. The veteran confirmed that he will call time on his red-ball career after the Pakistan series.

Speaking of the fifth Ashes Test, Cummins won the toss and invited England to bat first. Mitchell Starc claimed a four-wicket haul as Australia bundled out England for 283 runs. Harry Brook led the way for the hosts, scoring 85 off 91 deliveries. Meanwhile, Chris Woakes provided a major breakthrough, dismissing Warner to leave Australia 61/1 at Day 1 stumps.
Australia got off to a solid start on Day 2 with Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne resuming their batting. Joe Root snatched speedster Mark Wood’s ball out of thin air as Labuschagne was out for nine runs in the opening session. However, Australia reached 115/2 in 51 overs at Lunch.
