India’s World Cup-winning skipper Kapil Dev has suggested that the players must hire drivers instead of driving vehicles on their own. His remarks came days after wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant’s horrific car accident at the Delhi-Dehradun highway, which left him severely injured.

At the same time, Kapil also recalled his own bike accident and said that his brother never allowed him to ride a two-wheeler thereafter. He also mentioned that the players must always remain cautious and take good care of themselves.

We should try and avoid things that lead to such mishaps: Kapil Dev

“We should try and avoid things that lead to such mishaps. Especially for these special players. I remember during my early playing days I was riding a motorbike and met with an accident following which my brother never let me ride a motorbike,” said Kapil Dev while speaking to ABP News.

“The players should remain cautious. They don’t need to drive themselves. They can afford drivers. I know a lot of people are passionate about driving but when you have so many responsibilities, you must take care of yourself,” he added.

Moments after his accident, the southpaw was taken to the emergency ward of a local hosptials before being shifted to Max Hospital in Dehradun for further treatment. As per reports, the 25-year-old has now been moved out of the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and shifted to private suite. The report also adds that the cricketer is doing fine and is in the recovery process.

Meanwhile, Pant’s injuries could keep him out of the cricket field for an indefinite period of time. While he has been rested for the upcoming home white-ball series against Sri Lanka, it remains to be seen whether he will be fit to make himself available for selection for the home Test series against Australia, in February- March, and Indian Premier League (IPL) later.
