The Gautam Gambhir versus Virat Kohli saga is still fresh in people’s memory and is still the talk of the town. Notably, both the LSG mentor and former RCB skipper were fined 100% of their match fees but unfortunately, the incident didn’t quite end there. In LSG’s last match against Chennai Super Kings, Gambhir was spotted giving a death stare to fans who were shouting ‘Kohli, Kohli’ at Ekana Stadium on May 3. On the other hand, Kohli shared a cryptic post on his Instagram story a day after the incident.

Meanwhile, talking about the same, Manoj Tiwary stated the BCCI should step in and stop these kinds of incidents from taking place in the future. He also opined that fans might end up remembering Gautam Gambhir for his aggression and not because of his impactful performances in the two world cups India won in 2007 and 2011.

“BCCI should step in. This is not a pleasant sight, especially when you are an ambassador of the game, you shouldn't do such things. IPL is one of the most popular tournaments in the world, a lot of people watch it, especially youngsters. A lot of young people want to become like Virat Kohli. So, it is important to find the root cause of clashes like these. Healthy competition is good for the sport but not incidents like these,” Tiwary said on Cricbuzz.

When icons quit cricket, people want to remember them for what they have done on the field: Tiwary

Furthermore, Manoj Tiwary opined that the legends of the game should be remembered for their contribution and special performances given to the game and these incidents should not happen going ahead. Citing the example of Gambhir, Tiwary said that the former Indian opener should be remembered by cricket aficionados for his World Cup winning performances rather than the on-field spats which recently happened in the ongoing IPL 2023.

“This cannot go on. These two are icons as I had said earlier. When icons quit cricket, people want to remember them for what they have done on the field rather than other things. People mostly will remember Gambhir for his aggression, that will be the first thing that will come to their mind. They will forget that he has played a major role in India winning two World Cups. This should not happen. This is not the right example to set,” the 37-year-old added.

Notably, this is not the first time Gambhir and Kohli were involved in a heated argument. A similar incident happened in IPL 2013 when both of them charged at each other during a match between RCB vs KKR.
