After losing the first Test, India managed to bounce back in the five-match series against England with a win in the second Test in Vizag. Rohit Sharma led the relatively inexperienced team commendably as the hosts restored parity in the series. However, the Mumbai batter has failed to get going with the bat.
In four innings so far, Rohit has scored just 90 runs at an average of 22.50. The experienced campaigner also had a forgettable outing in the two-match Test series in South Africa, where he scored just 61 runs in four innings, averaging 20.33.
According to a report by Indian Express, Rohit had a tough time in the nets ahead of the third Test in Rajkot. The report stated that the veteran got dismissed to a net bowler off consecutive deliveries. The first ball nipped back and took out Rohit's middle stump. The next one was an out-swinger that induced an edge.

The Indian fans will hope that their captain gets back to form in the third Test as the home side is expected to field a very inexperienced batting line-up in the crucial encounter. India have decided to look beyond veterans Ajinkya Rahane and Cheteshwar Pujara, while the legendary Virat Kohli has opted out of the series citing 'personal reasons'. Shreyas Iyer has been left out of the squad following his dismal outings in the first two Tests, while KL Rahul is yet to regain full fitness after missing the second Test due to a right quadriceps injury.
The onus will be on the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, who have looked in good touch in the series thus far. Rajat Patidar looked good in the first innings of the second Test, which was also his debut for India in the longest format of the game. He is set to get another opportunity and will be hopeful of making it count. If Rohit gets back among the runs, it will bode well for the Indian team. The third Test gets underway on Thursday, February 15, at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Rajkot.
